A: Early morning 1-2 hours before the sun comes up. Watering during the day in the Florida heat causes the water to evaporate before getting a chance to reach the root system of your grass. This also can create a magnification effect as the small droplets of water can magnify the sun and burn your grass.
Watering in the evening and night can promote fungus growth. This leads to an unattractive lawn that can sprout mushrooms, browning, and even a slimy like residue.
A: There are many factors that take into account when achieving that beautiful Florida lawn we all want.
First of which is proper watering. Even if you have a sprinkler system your sprinkler zones and coverage may not be optimized. Getting them set to the right times and coverage is essential.
Second is building a strong root structure. Fertilizing your lawn properly with the right fertilizer can give your lawn a strong root structure and that beautiful green color you’re looking for.
Third is proper mowing. Mowing your grass on a proper schedule and cutting at the proper height for the type of grass you have is key to the growth of your lawn. Letting your lawn get to long puts added stress on the root system.
A: Depends on the type of grass, typically any variation of St. Augustine should be mowed weekly during the growing season and bi-weekly in the offseason. Especially if there is a irrigation system.
Bahia grass type, you can stretch out to 2 weeks or biweekly service but depending on how your yard is, it could use weekly mowing during the growing season as well. Can continue biweekly service in the off season as well, even get to once a month depending on irrigation.
Bermuda grass type, can grow rapidly in the growing season and will require a weekly mow to sustain a nice looking lawn.
A: In Florida we recommend 3 times, early spring, mid summer and once in the Fall. Type of fertilizer will depend on your type of grass.
